New research reveals that human skin tones have fluctuated widely for at least 900,000 years. A genetic study conducted across Africa has shown that some of the darkest skin tones evolved from lighter genetic variants, challenging any preconceived notions about skin color being linked to evolutionary advancement or superiority, a belief deeply rooted in racist ideologies.
